Working together to make a difference in our communities
Three local housing associations have come together to donate £9,000 to Merthyr Cynon Foodbank to ensure they can continue to provide their vital services within the boroughs.
After several years of austerity, times are very tough for many families. The demand for the Foodbank has increased again and the need for support from our community is more important than ever. Hearing the struggles the Foodbank was facing, Merthyr Valleys Homes, Merthyr Tydfil Housing Association and Cynon Taf Community Housing Group provided the much needed support, ensuring this vital service can continue within our communities.
Cleide Correia, Project Manager at Merthyr Cynon Foodbank said:
“We dream of a day to see people not relying on foodbanks to feed their families. However, given the level of the demand nowadays, it is a real privilege to ensure that people are not left to go to bed hungry.
Without the generosity of our community in Merthyr and in Cynon (churches, schools, businesses and individuals) and the fantastic level of support we receive from them, our door wouldn’t be open. I’m also overwhelmed with the help of our wonderful volunteers. I always say that they are the life-blood of our charity.
UK hunger is a reality. Our aim is to work with local businesses and local individuals whom we can engage to “own” the project by helping us via standing orders. We believe that this is the way for us to be sustainable and be able to budget our project in a better way since grants/funds are becoming so difficult to obtain.
We are very fortunate to have Merthyr Valleys Homes, Cynon Taf Community Housing Group and Merthyr Tydfil Housing Association supporting us at this time. We are truly grateful to you. Your assistance is greatly appreciated.”
Kevin Eddy, Chair of MVH’s Grant Panel said “With the growing need for this support, we are all proud to provide this funding to ensure the continuity of this service.”
Karen Courts, Chief Executive of Merthyr Tydfil Housing Association said “We are proud to support the Merthyr Cynon Foodbank and pleased that our donation will help to ensure the ongoing provision of services for those in need”.
Merthyr Cynon Foodbank relies on ongoing support of the community to ensure they can continue to stop people going hungry. For more information about providing donations or accessing the services Merthyr Cynon Foodbank provides visit their website: www.merthyrcynon.foodbank.org.uk
