In May, Merthyr Valleys Homes merged its two offices (Martin Evans House and the Johnny Owen Centre, Gurnos) into a new office in the heart of Gellideg.

Since this move, the Johnny Owen Centre has been vacant and we have been considering the future of the building. Unfortunately, the level of work and the investment needed to ensure the building is suitable for use wouldn’t be feasible and therefore we have made the difficult decision to demolish the building.

Gurnos is an important community to us –  it is where a large portion of our tenants live and we have and we will continue to invest in the area. For example, we have recently taken back the lease of 15 Chestnut Way (the old 3G’s building), undertaken repairs and relocated the Forsythia Youth Project there following the reduction in funding available for the 3G’s. This means that the young people are now able to enjoy themselves in a larger, more suitable and safer environment.

The demolition work is due to start within the next few days. We are currently looking at future plans for the land and will put more information on facebook, twitter and our website soon
