We are delighted to announce that Michelle Reid has been appointed as the new Chief Executive of Merthyr Valleys Homes (MVH), Wales’ first tenant and employee mutual. Michelle, the current Chief Executive of Cynon Taf Community Housing Group, joins MVH with a wealth of knowledge and experience in Housing and its supported services.
Michelle said: “I am absolutely delighted to be appointed as the next Chief Executive of Merthyr Valleys Homes following Mike Owen’s retirement. It’s a huge honour to be given the opportunity to take this fantastic mutual organisation into the next stage of its journey, working in partnership with the members, tenants, staff and partners, and supported by an outstanding senior management team.
Whilst I will be sad to leave my brilliant colleagues and volunteers at the Cynon Taf Group, I’m looking forward to supporting the MVH Board and Democratic Body to sustain and build upon the successes already achieved, and to look to the future with confidence.”
The recruitment process was true to the mutual values and was led by Board and the Democratic Body, with all members being invited to view and score on the presentation element of the interview process.
Board and Democratic Body are really pleased to appoint and welcome Michelle.
Nicola Evans, Chair of Merthyr Valleys Homes said “Michelle’s values and commitment to our mutual way of working resonates strongly with what we are all about at Merthyr Valleys Homes. I’m looking forward to working with her to continue the excellent work that our mutual has already achieved”.
Natalie Warner, Chair of the Democratic Body stated, “We look forward to working with Michelle in continuing to develop a strong future for our members and our communities”.
Although we as an organisation look forward to the next chapter of our journey with Michelle as our Chief Executive, we want to thank Mike Owen for his dedication, vision and support in developing our mutual and our communities for the better. We wish him the very best for his retirement.
Joy Kent, Chair of Cynon Taf Community Housing Group added, “Obviously we are really sad to lose Michelle. She has been an outstanding Chief Executive. She has worked so hard with the board and staff team to get us into the place we are now with some great new approaches and systems set up, and some really exciting and ambitious plans for the future. We wish her and MVH all the best and thank her for everything she has done for CTCHG.”
