Two young people have recently started an exciting journey after getting the keys to their new, cosy modular homes in Twynrodyn.

The homes, which were built and delivered by Amazing Grace Spaces, are the first of their kind in Merthyr Tydfil and are part of a trial which Merthyr Valleys Homes is running to assess the feasibility of modular homes as a low cost, alternative housing solution. With many people in Merthyr Tydfil being affected by issues like welfare reform, the need for MVH to provide affordable housing has never been greater.

This type of homes brings lots of benefits including quick installation, the ability to re-locate them in different areas and cost savings compared to a more traditional build. However, this shouldn’t be misinterpreted negatively – the homes themselves are very modern. They have a bedroom with built-in a wardrobe, a bathroom and an open plan kitchen/living area with patio doors that lead to a balcony. This, together with the landscaped courtyard and parking facilities, which WK Plasterers and KEEBS undertook as the contractor, has totally transformed the former garage site.

Andrea Jarvis, Community Housing Team Leader, said “We are really proud to offer this exciting opportunity and over the course of the next several months, we will be working closely with the tenants to evaluate the success of the trial.”

Stuart Johnson, Amazing Grace Spaces Design & Operations Director said, “I am really pleased that Merthyr Valleys Homes has put faith in our quality low cost housing solutions by trialling two modular homes and look forward to hearing how the tenants get on.”

MVH recently invited local residents, Ward Councillors and other local housing providers, to take a look around the homes and the site. Many took up the offer and were impressed with homes.
