As a Mutual Housing Association, we’re here for our tenants and communities, providing homes and services that people want and need. Homes are a place of shelter and comfort and it’s extremely important that they are secure, affordable and enjoyable to live in.
Over the past few weeks we have been talking to residents of Cefn Isaf, Cefn Coed and those who live in close proximity about the options for the future of the flats. Following extensive tests, we have been advised that the current building will begin to come to the end of its natural lifecycle over the next several years. Because of this, there is only one responsible option for us to take. We will be starting afresh with Cefn Isaf, and replacing the current flats with a new, energy efficient, attractive scheme.
We have not come to this decision lightly but it is the only responsible option for us to progress with. Supporting residents of Cefn Isaf through the next steps is our main priority and we have a dedicated Project Team in place to do this.
Michelle Reid, Chief Executive of Merthyr Valleys Homes says:
“At the moment, our sole focus and priority is to support those who are affected by this decision. We have ensured that all affected residents have been fully informed about the decisions, and we have plans and processes in place to support them through the next stages, including discussing options for the future.
Although it will be quite a while until work starts on the new development, we want tenants who are returning to be fully involved in the design, look and feel of the new homes.
All tenants will have the right to return to the new site, if that is what they would like to do.”
Future updates on this development project will be posted on our Facebook and Twitter page and here on our website.
