#GivingTuesdayNow – Giving thanks, giving support
Today we’re celebrating #GivingTuesdayNow to thank all of the wonderful people across our communities who are out and about working hard to help others.
Merthyr has always been a community town, where people pull together showing community spirit and co-operation, and this has helped us overcome difficult times – this is definitely one of those times.
The community spirit, kindness and compassion that we’ve witnessed in response to Coronavirus (COVID-19) has been amazing and we want recognise and thank every group/person who is making a huge difference to those living in our communities……THANK YOU!
We recently launched our #DiolchYnFawr campaign and over the coming weeks and months we’ll be sharing more Thank You’s – take a look at our Facebook and Twitter pages for more information, and take the time to say ‘Diolch Yn Fawr’ to someone.
Supporting local groups – grants
The community’s response to supporting people through lockdown has been tremendous – we have seen lots of local groups adapting and developing their services, and countless volunteers coming forward to offer help and support to those living in their communities.
Rather than duplicate some of the services being offered , we decided it best to support these amazing initiatives , so we altered our grants scheme to offer funding to local groups to enable them to continue their fantastic work, and also offered our staff as volunteers and our vans to help transport food parcels, hot meals and welfare packs..
We contacted lots of different local groups and we were delighted to be able to help. We’ve awarded almost £25,000 between 8 local organisations/groups and we’ve also supported Gurnos Men’s Project, Gelllideg Foundation Group, Twyn Community Hub and S&G in terms of volunteers and vans.
If you’re a local community group, who would benefit from grant funding or need volunteers to help – please contact us on 0800 085 7843, we would love to hear from you.
