Merthyr Valleys Homes is delighted to have surpassed its target and raised an amazing £4,700 for Alzheimer’s Society Cymru – it’s Members’ Charity for 2018/2019.

Voted annually by its tenant and employee members, the Mutual Housing Association focuses all its fundraising efforts towards its chosen charity and over the course of the past year, an incredible effort has gone into achieving this huge amount – including holding quizzes, sweepstakes, cupcake sales and a sponsored walk from Aberfan to Merthyr Tydfil.

With one person every three seconds developing dementia – every penny raised for the charity is extremely important. Cheryl George, Community Fundraiser for Alzheimer’s Society Cyrmu said:

“We want to make sure that no one faces dementia alone and to ensure this we have developed a new innovative ‘Dementia Connect’ service which will make sure people get the right support, in the right way.

The incredible £4,700 raised by staff and members at Merthyr Valleys Homes means that our expert Dementia Advisers and trained volunteers will be there to provide relevant information and advice by phone or face-to-face, helping people with dementia in Cwm Taf take back control of their lives and be more independent for longer.”

Natalie Warner, Chair of Democratic Body commented “As a mutual our focus is people and making a difference in our community. Thank you to all our members’ that have helped raise this huge amount for this great charity through various events over the year.  We are proud that it will help make a difference to those affected by Alzheimers and Dementia in our town”
