How to find a home
If you are looking to find an affordable home, you need to use a service called Tai Dewis. This service is run in partnership with the Council and other social landlords in the area. It is known as a choice based lettings service and gives you an opportunity to choose where you would like to live. Here’s how it works.Step One: Register with Tai DewisStep two: Select a propertyStep three: Apply for a homeStep four: Receive an offer/get feedback
Step one – Tai Dewis
To register with Tai Dewis you will need to fill out an application form. This can be done by contacting Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council on 01685 725452, or by calling into the council offices at Castle Street, Merthyr Tydfil or by visiting our office at Martin Evans House.
Each application will be given a banding depending on your housing needs and current circumstances. Find out more about the banding system
Step two – Select a Property
You can view properties in the Tai Dewis advert which appears in the Merthyr Express and online.

Each property advert will provide details of the:
- Accommodation type i.e. House, flat
- Weekly rent and service charge
- Property location
- Relevant banding.
Step three – Apply for a Home

If your application is not successful, please check the next Tai Dewis advert feedback column to see how many bids were received for each property and how long the bidder had been waiting and their banding and will help you to decide where you have the best chance of being housed.
