Become a Member

Becoming a Member of MVH has a lot of benefits and rewards, including opportunities to get involved with MVH and help benefit the Merthyr Tydfil community.  As a Member you influence services that matter to you and can provide your views in a range of ways, from completing a quick survey each year through to sitting on a group of forum including the Democratic Body.  Your views are very important to us so that we can provide great services and make any changes to any areas where you feel we could do better.  Through Gyda’n Gilydd Members set out what MVH will focus on, whilst it is a 3 year strategy Democratic Body and Board will use your feedback to review progress each year and make any changes necessary.

TOGETHER WE’RE STRONGER

By offering our tenants and employees the choice to become a Member, we have given the control over the future of the organisation to them. Membership gives tenants and employees control over decisions that affect them, their home, their job, and the local community.

MEMBERSHIP IS WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT!

We would love all our Members to get involved in some way. We understand that our Members will have other commitments, so we have established a range of ways in which Members can become involved and have their say.

WHO CAN BECOME A MEMBER?

Anyone can become a Member if they are one of our tenants or employees - and Membership is free!

TENANT MEMBER

Membership is open to our tenants and anyone living in a tenant’s home or part of their household, providing they are over the age of 16. Becoming a Member will not affect their tenancy in any way.

EMPLOYEE MEMBER

Membership is open to all employees of MVH once they have passed their probationary period. Becoming a Member will not affect their contract of employment in any way.

ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP

Some leaseholders and not-for-profit organisations in Merthyr Tydfil may be able to become an Associate Member – please contact us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for more details.

WAYS TO GET INVOLVED

We have lots of different ways you can get involved – there’s something to suit everyone! We would love for you to make your membership meaningful by participating in some way and having your say, but how involved you become is down to you.

If you have just a few minutes to spare, you can complete a questionnaire, or take part in a survey. If you have a little more time, then maybe you could get involved in a community project. You could also join a forum or a panel, or even become a representative on the Democratic Body.

As a Member, every year you’ll be invited to our Annual Members Meeting where you’ll be able to exercise your vote, such as electing your Democratic Body representatives and receive a report from Democratic Body on what they have achieved on your behalf. In addition to the business side of the meeting, we aim to make our Annual Members Meeting a fun and worthwhile event for all.

MEMBERSHIP STRATEGY

Our Democratic Body have developed a Membership Strategy which supports our development as a mutual organisation.

There are four aims to the strategy that look at:

  • How we’ll grow membership
  • How we’ll communicate with members
  • How we’ll encourage Members to be involved
  • How Members can benefit

MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS SCHEME

MVH has always been committed to supporting and promoting local organisations, and we’ll continue to do this through membership.

As a thank you for your involvement we have put together a membership benefits scheme, this is an exclusive scheme available only to the Members of MVH. View the full list of membership offers/incentives.

We’re always open to suggestions that our members have regarding our membership rewards scheme. If there are any businesses you’d like to see on this scheme, or if you have your own business and would like to come on board then please contact us This email address is being protected from spambots. MEMBERS CHARITY

The Members’ Charity was first launched in 2017 when an employee Member came up with the idea of MVH having a dedicated Members’ charity, as voted for by the members.

The concept behind it was that charities within Merthyr Tydfil not only had the opportunity to receive much needed funds but to also raise the profile of the charity.

Members are asked for recommendations each March, for the local charities they would like us to support.  The Democratic Body will always seek to support as many local charities as possible and currently split the fundraising amount between the charities that receive the most nominations.

As well as fundraising, we also set out to help to raise the profile of the charity by, for example, advertising any services they offer.
