Accessibility
We want this site to be accessible to as many people as possible. There are several ways that you can change the way you view this site to make it more legible.
Changing text size
If you find the text on the screen is hard to read try increasing the text size. To do this using Internet Explorer click on View>Text Size and then select the size you feel most comfortable with, for example, Larger or Largest.
Controlling text and colours in your web browser
If you have difficulty seeing this site you can change the text size, style and colour and alter the foreground and background colours of web pages on your screen. You can set Internet Explorer to use the colours and text you prefer, the standard Windows colour and text or setting you specify in your own style sheet.
To help you make these adjustments you need to follow the steps set out below.
Microsoft Internet Explorer
- Open Internet Explorer
- Click on Tools > Internet Options from the menu. A box will open with a number of tabs at the top
- Select the General tab
- Select the button labelled Accessibility towards the bottom right of the box. This will open another box
- Select the boxes you want to change for example ‘Ignore font sizes specified on Web pages’ or ‘Ignore colours specified on Web Pages’
To change colours
- Click on Tools > Internet Options and then select the button labelled Colours towards the bottom left of the box
- You can now either use the Windows colour option or, by unticking the box, specify the colours you want to use
To change text size and style
- Click on Tools > Internet Options and then select the button labelled Fonts towards the bottom centre of the box
- You can now choose the text style and size you prefer
Netscape
- Click on Edit > Preferences
- Open the group called Appearance and select Fonts
- Make sure the word Western appears next to ‘For the encoding’
- Choose 18 from size
- Choose Arial or your preferred text from the box next to ‘Variable Width Font’
- Choose Courier New from the box next to ‘Fixed Width Font’
- Choose 18 from size
- To use your preferred text rather than the web page text choose ‘Use my defaults overriding document specified fonts’
- Select OK
To change colours
- Click on Edit > Preferences
- Open the group called Appearance and select Colours
- Choose the colours you prefer for text, background, unvisited links and visited links
- Select OK
