Staff Development

We encourage and support colleagues to develop the skills and knowledge to do their jobs and to do them well, helping us to create places where people are proud to live and work.

We are committed to providing the best learning and development activities for all our staff to meet the needs of Merthyr Valleys Homes, our customers and assist in the development of individual employees. This is done through corporate learning needs, business area specific learning and individual learning, which may include designing bespoke training packages or ad hoc courses.

All new employees receive training for their job role and will have:

  • Induction, so employees get to know more about the organisation, our culture and housing.
  • Performance Management Framework, to support all staff to develop their skills and abilities by agreeing objectives in annual appraisal and staff are supported by monthly one to one discussions with line managers.
  • Equality and Diversity, Data Protection and Health & Safety training.
  • Specific training for their job role.

A measure of commitment to personal development is in the achievement of skills and learning leading to qualifications at all levels in the organisation.

We also work with our Trade Unions and aim to support individuals to complete qualifications which are not related to their roles but meet the individuals career aspirations.
