Playday is the national day for play, traditionally held on the first Wednesday in August. It is the biggest play sector event in the UK, and possibly Europe!
As well as a celebration of children's right to play, Playday is a campaign that highlights the importance of play in children's lives.
This project provided cooking in the community regardless of Covid restrictions to introduce participants to new foods, cooking methods, food groups and helped tenants to develop confidence in their acquired knowledge and skills to make healthier choices when preparing and cooking fresh daily meals.
Merthyr Valleys Homes is a forward-thinking mutual housing association that owns and manages just over 4,000 homes in Merthyr Tydfil.
In 2016 we became the first tenant and employee-owned mutual housing organisation in Wales. Our members (tenants and employees) have influence over the running and future direction of our mutual and help us to continually improve the services we provide. Our elected members’ group, Democratic Body, have real powers and work closely with our Board and Executive Leadership Team to meet the growing needs and aspirations of our tenants, our employees and our local communities. Our key strength lies in working together.
--------------------------------------------
We are seeking two passionate and enthusiastic individuals who would like to help us to build on what we’ve already achieved.
We are looking for:
- We are looking for two Non-Executive Directors for an initial term of 3 years
We are looking for people who have skills, knowledge and experience in one of more of the following areas:
- Social housing experience
- Welfare, employment and financial inclusion experience
If either of these are ‘your thing’, and you have a level of expertise to effectively challenge and impact on our strategy in these areas, then we’d love to hear from you.
--------------------------------------------
An understanding of the housing sector and the regulatory context within which we operate would be useful but is not essential, as training and support will be provided. Previous Board experience is not essential.
In return, you will gain a unique experience of working with a dynamic Board in a mutual governance structure, alongside a passionate Democratic Body and an innovative and dedicated Executive Leadership Team.
We are striving to develop a more diverse organisation, and this includes our Board. We were awarded the Tai Pawb “Quality in Equality and Diversity” accreditation in 2019, but we know that we still have work to do in order to truly reflect our communities in Merthyr and across Wales. We are currently embarking on the QED Leaders accreditation, demonstrating our on-going commitment to being a mutual for everyone. Whilst we welcome applications from all suitably qualified candidates, we are keen to encourage applications from under-represented groups, this includes females, under 35s, Black, Asian and minority ethnic individuals for this vacancy, both to add to our skill set as a Board and to increase our diversity of thought and lived experience.
If you share our mutual values and passion for making a real difference in our communities and have the enthusiasm and commitment to get on Board, then please apply.
