During the Summer, we took to the road to hold chip pan amnesties across several of our estates. We invited Tenants to exchange their chip pans for brand-new air fryers. With chip pans among the leading causes of fire hazards in homes, we recognised the importance of this initiative.
We were delighted to partner with South Wales Fire & Rescue Service (SWFR) and National Energy Action (NEA) throughout the project. Both organisations provided valuable advice and guidance on fire safety and energy efficiency at the events. Throughout the pilot, we chatted with 148 community members and swapped 59 old chip pans. Aimee Jones, Tenant Engagement Partner, said: 'The safety of our tenants is paramount to us in Merthyr Valleys Homes. Chip pans can often be dangerous to tenants and their neighbours, with chip pans being one of the leading causes of house fires. An increase in the number of house fires can also have a negative effect on the insurance premiums we pay as a landlord, and this affects our ability to keep rents low and affordable.'
