This project provided cooking in the community regardless of Covid restrictions to introduce participants to new foods, cooking methods, food groups and helped tenants to develop confidence in their acquired knowledge and skills to make healthier choices when preparing and cooking fresh daily meals.

Each tenant was provided with a slow cooker, which was the key resource to this cooking project, we wanted to make cooking easier, reduce cost, encouraging batch cooking and teach them a more convenient way of cooking.

Each household was provided with a weekly bag of fresh ingredients, with an option of collecting or having delivered to their door.

We worked in partnership with Twyn Community Hub to source and provide all the ingredients packs and distributed them on a weekly basis.  The Hub acted as a collection point for those that were able to collect or wouldn’t be in on delivery morning.

We also worked with Richard Shaw Cooking Together Wales, who provided us with his professional cooking tutor services.  Richard, delivered the live and pre-recorded cook a long sessions, as well as the ingredient cards.  The cooking sessions were of such a professional standard it really helped the sessions to run smoothly.  Richard also created a website page for Merthyr Valleys Homes where all the cook a long videos and recipe cards are uploaded for everyone to use!
